Vegetable soup  is a dish eaten by people of different caste and countries,you.might be surprised if I told you that even people in China eat this healthy dish,but the procedures it is prepared is different.

Before I give you my Nigerian vegetable soup ingredients and recipe, let me take a little time in sharing the health benefits with you. Some health benefits of eating vegetable soup, this will prompt you to eating it regularly.

Health benefits of eating vegetables

  • Assist in weight loss

Vegetables can be used to loose weight because it's warm.and filling,it is a kind of soup which fills your stomach and doesn't make you crave for other foods or junks.

  • Makes the skin smooth and fresh
Due to the great nutrition that is provided to our body by these veggies,our body responds positively and thus making our skin smooth and fresh.

sure you might have been asking yourself why people who live in European countries tend to eat more of veggies that normal fleshy food,well I hope I have answered your question (s)

  • Adds nutritional value to the body
Yes ofcourse, vegetables are one of the main sources of nutrients to the body after fruits.fruits helps to build the immune system, but it cant work alone without vegetables,that's why you see some people who might not get sick throughout a whole year,yes!this is possible,it's possible not to fall sick throughout a whole year if your immune system has been built well to fight diseases and illness.

Those are few of the health benefits of eating vegetable soup.

now to the main part.

Nigerian vegetable soup ingredients 

  • Vegetables
  • Pepper of any kind e.g rodo, some tomatoes,long pepper(popularly known as tatashe)
  • Tin tomatoes (optional)
  • Fish e.g cold fish,stock fish,black fish, shrimp, crayfish, snails etc 
  • Meat
  • Locust beans (essential for the scent and taste,but can be optional)

How to cook Nigerian vegetable sou

Follow these guidelines and make yourself s tantalizing pot of soup.
  • Combine all your pepper in a blender,blend till it looks like paste,make sure to blend well to avoid eating raw proper as this is harmful to the health.
  • Cut your vegetable leaf (the right way) and pour in a bowl,add some salt and  a  cool water for a while.
Normally people do use hot water for the above process,but let me enlighten you that hot water makes you loose all the nutrients in the vegetables,and what will you gain in the soup when all the nutrients have been lost? 

Do remember to always use cool water and salt to soak the vegetables as this takes away the germs.With this noted,let's get to the next step.
  • After soaking the veggies, let's get to the sauce, add a good quantity of palm oil to a pot, when it's heated add your pepper and leave for a period of 10 minutes (if you are using a gas cooker with high heat), after this add your locust brand and stir,cover up for some minutes so as to steam.
  • Incase you are using meat, you must've boiled your meat and add the water from the boiled meat to the stew.also prepare your fishes and ponmo (cow skin) add these to the stew you are cooking and stir,add seasonings of your choice and leave for a while.
By now your stew is boiling,your fishes and meats are in ,plus some other ingredients listed above (it optional anyways) , including your seasonings (in good measurements)
  • The last step is to add your vegetable into the stew,sieve it and add it to the stew,use turning stick or a cooking spoon,stir well and make sure that the vegetables is well covered with the sauce.leave for about ten minutes and make sure to reduce the the heat to avoid getting it burnt.
