While growing up, I've always loved drinking hibiscus tea, we do call it zobo in my country, Nigeria, and even without knowing the health benefits, we enjoy drinking it. Now I have taken it upon myself to teach you how to make zobo tea.
Right from when I was eleven or twelve years old, I used to make it, I'll get and wash the hibiscus tea leaves, boil and wait for it to get cool in the freezer (though I used to take a sip, or maybe a lot of sips of the hot zobo drink).
I made one last Saturday, and it popped in my head to share with you this quick tea recipe.
So, here we are. You might ask yourself, what is the health benefit of drinking hibiscus tea? Well here are a few health benefits:
Zobo drink reduces high blood pressure
Hibiscus tea lowers cholesterol
Research has proven that zobo tea may be of benefit to those suffering from high cholesterol.
Other health benefits of Hibiscus tea include
- Relieve cramps and menstrual pain
- Protection of the kidney and liver
- Prevention of cancer
- Weight loss
- Boost the immune system
- Hibiscus leafs
- Ginger
- Pineapple
- Sugar(optional)
PROCEDURES
- Get and rinse your zobo leaves.
- Place your already rinsed leaves in a big pot and pour in a reasonable amount of water(making sure it's not too much, but put in mind that the water should be a little bit over the zobo leaves).
- Peel and dice your pineapple, pour it into the pot, and do the same with your Ginger.
- Place the pot on fire under medium heat and allow to boil for about 20-30 minutes
- Gently put it down and allow it to cool in a big bowl for a few minutes, then put in your sugar and sweetener and stir.
- Pour your zobo drink into a container (I normally use empty soft drinks container) then store it in a refrigerator for better enjoyment.
