Well the season is here, and the spookiness is in the air, but so you know how to get the feeling "just right"? It's with the right Halloween themed cookies.

Ingredients:

Below are the required ingredients for the cookies:

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)


Now for the icing, have these ingredients ready:

  • 2 large egg whites
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • Food coloring in Halloween colors (orange, black, green, etc.)


How to make Halloween-themed cookies


  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using) until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.
  5. Divide the dough in half, shape each half into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
