Vegan sandwich filling
- 3 coves garlic, minced
- 3 cups jackfruit, fresh or canned
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon vegan Worcestershire
- 2 cups vegetable stock
- ½ cup vegan bbq sauce
- Liquid smoke
How to make the best vegan sandwich
Here are the easy steps to make your very vegan sandwich.
- Cut open the jackfruit into half. Afterwards carefully remove it's seeds and outer body. Rinse the fruit then dry.
- Heat oil under medium heat in a large pan.until fragrant.
- Pour in the jackfruit, Worcestershire and liquid smoke, then stir.
- Add the vegetable stock and let it simmer. After a while, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 45 minutes until the fruit has broken down.
- Spread the jackfruit in a prepared baking sheet and bake for 75 minutes until the liquid has baked out and the jackfruit has a deeper brown color.
- Pour the vegan barbeque sauce over the jackfruit, stir for a while and return to the oven (let it bake for another 15 minutes)
- Serve warm on vegan buns with vegan coleslaw.
